News is breaking regarding New York Governor Eliot Spitzer (D). The oh-so righteous one is caught up in a prostitution ring. This is the great agent of change recently sold to NY. I guess when he was prosecuting these people as AG he was getting a little on the side. What a hypocrite. I can't even say I hope he resigns because I've heard that the Lietenant Governor is more liberal than he is. (Paterson believes that police should "shoot to wound" rather than "shoot to kill"). Whatever happens, at least this should put a wrench in Spitzer's plans for NY, like raising fees, taxes and the state budget.
Update: It was rumored that Governor Spitzer is going to resign this evening at 7:00. Later it was reported that his office said we won't hear from him tonight. He's trying to avoid prosecution. He'll probably cop a feel, I mean, a plea, check into rehab and then sign a multi-million dollar book deal.
Another report indicates that it was Spitzer's odd transfers of money that started this whole thing. You would think the guy would know better. I'm sure he'll say he's a sex addict before going into rehab. To view the full complaint click here. "Client 9" begins on page 34.
What an awful thing to do to his wife and children. What is it with these politicians who act this way and then have their wives stand there next to them. I noticed at the very end of his news conference that as soon as they were past the curtain his wife got away from him as fast as she could. It's very sad for his family.

Tax Dollars at Work-Update
On the front page of this morning's newpaper was this story. A juvenile detention center in Auburn, NY has 25 staff and only 2, yes TWO, residents. Those 2 residents will be leaving by the middle of the week, so there will be 25 staff and ZERO residents. The staff members fill their days moving things around and taking inventory.
The taxpayers of New York are paying $1.8 million per year to keep this place open and there are seven other facilities just like this one. There is one in Gloversiville, NY with zero residents and 7 staff members costing the taxpayers almost half a million dollars a year.
The Office of Children and Family Services is trying to get these facilities closed, for reasons which should be obvious to anyone who has a brain and chooses to use it. But the union that represents the "workers" at these facilities is fighting it. The union's president said that they will "do everything possible to ensure the job security of our members." They want the "workers" to keep their "jobs". Excuse me, but don't you have to do some actual work to be a worker and provide some sort of value to call what you do a job? These people ought to be ashamed of themselves.
This is so outrageous but the lawmakers in Albany are too afraid of the unions to do anything about it.
Update: Click here for the update on this story. A bill has been introduced in the NY State Senate that will make it ILLEGAL to close these places. This is unbelievable. Who said nothing was getting done during Hookergate?

Reaping what they Sow
I have to admit that Republican leadership in recent years has left a lot to be desired. But watching what is happening with the Democrats has been nothing short of magnificent. The leaders of the Democratic party have taken incompetence to a whole new level!
Don't forget, now, that this is the party that's billing itself as being the party of the future, the visionaries, the forward-looking politicians. Recent events tend to disprove that claim.
When Michigan and Florida chose to move up their primary dates both parties scolded and punished the two states. The Republicans cut their delegates in half. I thought it was all sort of ridiculous, but in the whole scheme of things that didn't seem like a big deal to me.
But the Democrats felt that they needed to severely punish the two states for stepping out of line and not following their rules. So they stripped the states of ALL delegates. So much for vision.
Now we are going to witness a civil war in the Democratic party. They may have the states hold new primaries, but they have no way to pay for that. They may go ahead and seat those delegates anyway but that would enrage Obama's supporters and all hell would break loose.
They've really gotten themselves into a pickle and I couldn't be more tickled.

Stuck on Stupid Part III
The Committe on Energy and Commerce has issued a white paper titled "Climate Change Legislation Design". Of course this is a committee controlled by Democrats. They describe this as "the next step in the legislative process leading to enactment of a mandatory, economy-wide climate change program."
This program would include such things as "appliance efficiency standards, building codes, land use decisions, performance standards, public transit and incentives..." It also seeks to "rationalize the roles of different levels of government". I guess when your plan is so completely irrational you need 25 pages of stale language in the hopes that the reader will fall asleep and forget his initial objection.
Now I am not accusing the crafters of these policies of being stupid. Actually, I think they're brilliant. Al Gore won an academy award and a peace prize. They tell us that the global warming debate (oh, sorry, should I have said climate change?) is over and that it's settled. Sure, there are a lot of scientists who don't agree but we all know they're just a bunch of idiotic goons who don't care about Mother Earth. They have enough of us duped into thinking all of the bad weather in the world is our fault and whatever they tell us to do we'll do. The voters don't take the time to find out the cost of their plans and the media does nothing but help them.
The cost of these plans is a loss of freedom and liberty like I have never seen in my lifetime. I keep hearing people talk about George W. Bush like he's some sort of monster robbing us of our liberties. Impeding the terrorists' plans of blowing us up is trampling on liberties. But giving the government control of energy and resources is quite all right?
So let's see, we have people voting for politicians who promise to go after their paychecks, control their health care and control the energy and land resources of their country. Sounds pretty stupid to me.

Liberals in Action
I was totally flabbergasted today when I saw this arcticle in my newspaper. The state is considering charging doctors, on average, $50,000 per year for a medical malpractice fund. Yes, that's right, FIFTY THOUSAND DOLLARS per year, per doctor. This is on top of malpractice insurance premiums which average $47,305 for OB/GYN's and $35,238 for Orthopedists.
This is what happens when liberal politicians control a state. We constantly hear about the "national health care crisis". So rather than do anything to help make health care more affordable what do they do? Impose an enormous tax on the health care industry, of course. I guess if you put all the doctors out of business health care will be really cheap. They keep the trial lawyers happy and they are confident that the voters of their state are too stupid to throw them out of office.
Locally we are paying a little more than $1.03 in taxes per gallon of gas, about $4000 in property taxes per $100,000 of assessed value and over 8% sales taxes. We also pay among the highest health insurance premiums in the nation. When are the people of New York going to say "Enough is enough!" and stop voting against their own interests?

God Bless Texas
On a few talk radio programs today several Texas Republicans called in to the shows. They all said that they crossed party lines and voted for Hillary. One woman said she felt dirty, but wanted to do whatever she could to stop Obama. It was so funny, I laughed out loud with each caller. I love it.
No harm can come to the Republicans by the Democrats fighting their way to their national convention. God bless Texas!
On a side note, Obama for the first time got some tough questions from reporters. I am not making this up! Click Here. He had to run off the stage! Moments like these are so few and far between that we have to enjoy each one as if it's our last.

Who Will McCain Pick as VP?
There has been much speculation lately about who John McCain will choose as his running mate. I heard today that a lot of Republicans believe that he should choose Mitt Romney, despite the bad blood between the two. I am not sure that Romney would agree to it, but if he did it would help McCain pick up conservative support.
Senator McCain has admitted that the economy is not his strongest suit. Mitt Romney has a better understanding of the economy than perhaps any other person under consideration. Romney was a governor and would bring that executive experience to the ticket. He has a great deal of wealth, which McCain will certainly need in the general election.
We will have to wait and see what happens, but I think having Mitt Romney on the ticket would do John McCain a world of good.

Stuck on Stupid, Part II
Every time I hear the Democrats debate or listen to one of their campaign speeches I wonder to myself, are they stupid or are they hoping that millions of American voters are stupid? It must be one or the other, or both.
I'm not an economist but I can recognize stupid economic policies, even when they come packaged in some feel good liberal spin. Take for instance Senator Obama's health care proposal, which he plans to pay for with the funds we are now spending on fighting terrorists in Iraq.
Common sense would tell us that Iraq war spending should gradually decrease over time. The surge appears to be working, and if it continues to produce results and the Iraqi government gets it's act together, we should see a reduction of troop levels. Senator Obama pledges to bring the troops home as soon as possible if he is elected president. In his last debate, he conceded that if AlQuada establishes bases in Iraq (duh) after he pulls our troops, that he will re-invade Iraq.
Are you with me so far? Okay, good. What funds will BO use to re-invade Iraq after he has spent all of the money on his shiny new national health care plan? He's stated many times that he will also need to raise taxes on the rich to pay for his proposals. So will he then raise taxes even more? Will his tax increases trickle down to the middle class? To the working class? Any person capable of rational thought knows the answers to those questions.
So, BO will deliver unto us a beautiful health care plan that will save us all and wipe out tragedy, and it will be paid for by bringing our troops home from Iraq before they have finished the job. But how will he pay for it next year? How will we pay for it in a decade? Like all government programs, it will never end, it will expand.
Another question people should ask is how the enormous bureaucracy known as the federal government could possibly be better than what we now have. Who can forget the liberals screaming about FEMA's incompetence in the aftermath of Hurrican Katrina? Yet they want to put those bureaucrats in charge of their health.
So, again, I must ask - are the candidates stupid? Or are they simply hoping that enough Americans will vote against their own self-interests in November simply because it feels good?

Stuck on Stupid, Part I
Today is my first article in a new series called "Stuck on Stupid". I keep thinking about the stupid things Michelle Obama has said. I'm stuck on it. And it's stupid.
Michelle Obama is a woman who seems to have everything in life that any average American could dream of. She has a successful husband, two beautiful children, an Ivy League education, a high paying job and a beautiful home. Yet she was never proud of her country until her husband turned into some sort of political messiah. To me that defies logic. She goes around telling people not to strive for what she has attained. She doesn't want the young people of American to follow in the footsteps of the Obamas.
I am certainly not saying that anybody should be discouraged from pursuing careers in social work, teaching or nursing. There are people who are especially suited to those careers and those people should be encouraged. But what is wrong with the person who wants to study, work hard for the purpose of becoming wealthy...or even just middle class? What is wrong with someone wanting to own this home:
It looks lovely, doesn't it? That is the Obamas' home. Why shouldn't all Americans work hard so that they can acheive the lifestyle of the Obama's?
I'm getting really sick and tired of hearing politicians bash corporations, executives, and the "rich". If not for corporations, would I have this computer to work on? Would politicians be able to deliver their messages 24 hours a day on cable if not for televisions? Could you read my blog if not for the internet? These inventions came from investment of capital, time and talent. Who will invest money if they are not allowed a return on their investment? Will you buy stock if you're told that at best you will break even? Of course not!
They twist logic when they tell you that they will punish companies for taking their jobs and leaving. Here's the truth-people go into business to make money. It's that simple. It's fortunate that they then need to hire people to help them make money. If you take away their incentive to make money they are going to go elsewhere. They'll take their capital and their jobs with them.
