New York State Tyranny

The State of New York thought they weren't taxing New Yorkers enough so they increased the cigarette tax. The tax went up by $1.50per pack, so the total NYS tax on a pack of smokes will now be $2.75.

One can't help but wonder what the goal is. Anti-smoking groups applaud the new tax, believing it will push people to quit smoking. The legislators say they increased the tax to close the budget gap. If everybody quits smoking they won't be able to balance the budget.

Wasn't there a revolution over this sort of excessive taxation a few hundred years ago?

Sorry Smokers: cigarette prices rise $1.25 today.

Unfortunately NY seems to be populated by politicians that labor under the "new math" theory that 2+2 is equal to, or greater than, 4. This is where the world of government education and I took different paths, mine includes absolutes, theirs unprovable theory.

It's funny, even back in 1776 NY held out on declaring independence and when we were fighting the British many New Yorkers helped them and not Washington and his troops. No wonder things are the way they are in this state.
